Who knew that the “old guys” of sports would cash in as much as they have? A couple of cagey veterans have cashed in this week.
Thirty-four-year-old Josh Donaldson, from Toronto Blue Jays fame, has found a home in Minnesota. The third baseman is best known in these parts for the Blue Jays’ playoff pushes from three and four years ago.
After a comeback year in Atlanta in 2019, Donaldson inked a four-year, $92-million deal with a Minnesota Twins team that may threaten in 2020. The Twins already have big-bat capability.
In the NFL, Phoenix fan favourite Larry Fitzgerald signed a one-year, $11-million deal to stay with the Cardinals — the only NFL team he has ever played for. We know the 36-year-old receiver is going to Canton, Ohio. We also know that he will go down as one of football’s greats, both on and off the field.
Sports is a young man’s game, but these deals prove that there is still great value in a veteran.
