A 31-year-old cab driver is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after what police are calling a “violent incident” in Regina Thursday night.
Officers were called to the 2100 block of Park Street around 9:20 p.m. after numerous calls of a person in distress. Police said a number of people were on the scene, near a parked car, when officers arrived. People were trying to help a man with injuries.
Police said it appears an altercation occurred inside the cab and continued, even though the driver stopped and tried to get out of the vehicle.
Multiple people said at least one person had been stabbed but police haven’t confirmed it.
Mackenzie McGann said he was out for a smoke when heard yelling coming from a cab.
“One guy came up to me and asked me to call 911. He had a shirt on his mouth and was bleeding,” McGann said. “I was freaking out because that’s the first time something had happened in that area.”
McGann said the man told him that both he and the cab driver had been stabbed.
Sarah Mitchell lives in the area and she said her two teenage sons went outside when they saw police lights. She said one of the people outside had told them that someone had been stabbed.
Three men were taken to hospital, including the cab driver. A 22-year-old man was treated in hospital and released. A 24-year-old man remains in hospital.
Police also received information about a man behaving suspiciously on the service road in the 900 block of Victoria Avenue east. The man, 20, was taken into custody based on suspected involvement.
Regina police believe all four men are connected to the same incident. No charges have been laid.
