The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency is going to have to find a new fire commissioner as of the end of the month — Duane McKay is taking another job.
The current commissioner and vice-president of operations is leaving that position to become the president of CanOps, a national non-profit which focuses on advancing public safety, according to a news release from the province.
CanOps is also a service provider for the province’s public safety agency.
Government Relations Minister Lori Carr said in the news release that McKay is well-known and respected in the province.
“We thank him for his 17 years of service and for his leadership during some of the most significant crises in Saskatchewan history, including numerous wildfires, evacuations and massive flooding events,” said Carr.
McKay will be done his work in the public safety agency at the end of the month. No decisions have been made on who will replace McKay yet.
