A string of break-ins spanning several Saskatchewan communities led to an RCMP crime watch advisory earlier in the week.
The bowling alley in Maidstone was one of the businesses that was broken into during the Sunday night crime spree.
“Basically they damaged our front door, took the confectionery, took the alcohol and they got some money out of video arcade games,” said Connie McCulloch, board chair of the Maidstone bowling alley. “The jukebox, pool table, you know they are all coin operated so they broke in and took that sort of stuff.”
According to McCulloch, the suspects stole around $700 worth of goods.
They also caused significant damage to the front door, back lockers and all the coin operated machines.
She says this was a big hit to the bowling alley but they are trying to stay positive.
“It really affects us because we are a non-profit, club-run bowling alley and our expenses are reasonably high and of course bowling numbers are down so any time we have to incur any extra costs like replacing all our confectionery and alcohol it’s a big impact on the club,” said McCulloch.
“But we’re moving forward and we are open for business again. We’ll see what happens, hopefully we have a better 2020.”
