Whether you are planning a night out at one of Saskatoon’s many New Year’s Eve events, or just have some errands to run, the city is making it easy for you to get around on New Years Eve.
The city is offering free public transit on December 31st, including both regular buses and access transit. It will be running extended hours as well, until 3 a.m. on January 1st.
If you do decide to take your own car out for the night, Operation Red Nose is one option to get you and your car home safely.
December 31st is the last night of operation for the safe ride service this holiday season. Their phones open at 9 p.m. and last call is at 3 a.m.
Operation Red Nose does not have a set fee but instead they accept donations that all go towards children’s charities such as the Ronald McDonald House.
First Choice Designated Driver Service will also get you and your car home safely but operate more like a taxi service than Operation Red Nose.
After all the New Year’s Eve fun, if you wake up in the morning and are looking for something to do on your day off, the city has some options for you.
Facilities that will be open on New Year’s Day include Remai Modern, Forestry Farm Park and Zoo, Harry Bailey Aquatic Centre, the Field House, Shaw Centre and both the Lakewood and Lawson civic centres.
On the other end though, all of Saskatoon’s indoor rinks, libraries, Terry Fox track and the Cosmo Civic Centre will be closed.
Services such as the city’s impound lot and landfill will also be closed on January 1st.
Any Waste Collection scheduled for the 1st will be done on January 4th, and the city’s pay parking stations are free all day on January 1st.
