The 2020 CFL schedule is out. For the most part, the schedule looks like it always has. Saskatchewan Roughriders fans will have to be patient through the June 12 weekend as the Green and White open with a bye before hosting Montreal on June 19.
What did catch my attention was the date of the Grey Cup game in Regina. It’s at Mosaic Stadium on Nov. 22. It’s the earliest the Grey Cup game has been held since 2006, when the championship game was held on Nov. 19. The previous 13 Grey Cups have all been after Nov. 22.
I know it’s only a difference of days, but out here in the west where the CFL matters most, November weather can change in a matter of hours let alone days.
CFL commissioner Randy Ambrosie has talked about moving the schedule up, knowing an earlier Grey Cup gives the fans a much better chance of sitting through the championship game in better weather. With a Nov. 22 Grey Cup in 2020, and a Nov. 21 Grey Cup in Hamilton in 2021, let’s hope that date continues to move earlier into the month of November more and more.
