The 35-year-old man who was killed Saturday on the 200 block of Avenue X has been identified.
Winston Littlecrow’s family confirmed to 650 CKOM that he was the man who died from his injuries in the city’s sixteenth murder of 2019.
Liz Royal, Littlecrow’s cousin, said he leaves behind five children between the ages of two and 14, and he will be greatly missed.
“He meant a lot to our family. He was like a leader, people always looked up to him. If any one of us had a problem, or something, we’d go talk to him.”
Royal said he was always taking the lead in trying to mediate family issues.
Littlecrow was originally born in Saskatoon, and was from the Whitecap Dakota First Nation which is 30 kilometres south of Saskatoon.
Royal said his sense of humour will be missed, and his death still hasn’t sunk in for their family.
“We’re all struggling right now. We’re all still in shock right now. We can’t believe he’s gone. We’re just hoping that he’d come through the door, like he always does.”
Littlecrow was found injured by police responding to a call about gunfire around 7:20 a.m. Sunday.
He was transported to hospital, where he later died of his injuries.
Investigators with Major Crimes, Target Enforcement, and Forensic Identification were called out and have been continuing to investigate the incident.
