A Canadian military officer wants people to share their holiday cheer with the military this Christmas season.
Master Warrant Officer Jacques Ouillette coordinates the Write to the Troops program, which allows people to mail or send digital messages to soldiers stationed overseas.
He told The Brent Loucks Show the program is an easy way to show support to those in the military who can’t see their families during Christmas.
“It’s really appreciated by the troops; they really feel like they have the backup of the Canadian public,” he said.
Letters can be sent to soldiers in any location in the world, but Ouillette said most of the soldiers are stationed in Europe and the Middle East.
“Every time they receive these cards and they read them, it’s a little piece of home that makes a connection. It’s really, really great for their morale,” he explained. “They forget about food, they forget about showers. They just focus on the mail.”
Currently, there are more than 2100 members of the Canadian military stationed overseas.
