Whenever someone says a coach should be fired, I often ask them, “Who would you hire?”
It’s often met with a blank stare, “ums” and “ahs,” and then ultimately, “I don’t know, I just don’t like the current guy.”
That has been the case for the weeks following the Roughriders’ loss to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, when Stephen McAdoo was once again the fan target of criticism for the play-calling.
And if you watched TSN’s Wired segment, there was one point where even Cody Fajardo uttered the words, “I hate that play.”
Usually, the coach and quarterback go through the playbook and calls are made in crucial situations that they agree on and the quarterback feels comfortable running. Clearly, that wasn’t the case in the West final.
But now fans have a name that they can use when asked, “Who would you hire instead?”
Jason Maas.
Yes, the high-emotion coach comes with a little baggage from Edmonton but he also has an incredible offensive resume.
Maas has some landing spots that may be more logical than Saskatchewan, but in terms of building offences, Maas has been one of the best in the CFL for the last five years.
