This may not be popular to say in Saskatchewan, but I enjoyed seeing the images from the Winnipeg airport yesterday, and the parade today as the Bomber faithful celebrated a Grey Cup championship.
It’s nice to see the Grey Cup land in a market where the CFL matters.
During Sunday’s Grey Cup broadcast, TSN’s Brian Williams correctly pointed out to CFL commissioner Randy Ambrosie that the three biggest markets posed the biggest challenges for the league.
Attendance is low, and indifference reigns. This is an age old issue.
Earlier today the Alouettes gave head coach Khari Jones an extension. Under Jones, the Alouettes’ play has gotten better.
Here is hoping that the product in Toronto and Vancouver improves with new head coaches as well.
I do have realistic expectations of what support will be like in Canada’s three biggest markets. It will never rival the NHL or the NBA.
However, there is no chance of even a small increase in interest if those teams are losing teams.
