It’s time to pay tribute to some unlikely heroes from Sunday’s CFL West Division semifinal.
They are Bombers defensive co-ordinator Richie Hall, Winnipeg offensive co-ordinator Paul LaPolice and, by extension, head coach Mike O’Shea.
The visitors deserve full marks for a one-sided, 35-14 win over the Stampeders at McMahon Stadium on Sunday.
The numbers say it all. Bo Levi Mitchell threw three interceptions in his home park.
On offence,Winnipeg found a way to beat Calgary even though Zach Collaros threw for under 200 yards. The team’s leading rusher was the backup quarterback, Chris Streveler, who had 82 yards.
The go-to guy, Andrew Harris, ran for just 57.
It was an offensive game plan that, at times, had the Stampeders on their heels.
Credit should go to the coaches and the leadership group of this team that put together a sound game plan in the home of the defending Grey Cup champions.
The Riders need to beware come Sunday.
