A third teen has now been charged in the death of another teenager.
Major Crimes investigators have now charged a 17-year-old male with second-degree murder and breach of undertaking. The accused will appear before a justice of the peace Wednesday evening.
Earlier, a 15-year-old boy was charged with second-degree murder in the weekend death of the teenager.
Major Crimes investigators also charged the 15-year-old with possession of a firearm and breach of probation in connection to the Saturday death.
Major Crimes was assisted by the Guns and Gangs Unit, Forensic Identification, Tech Crimes, Integrated Intelligence and the Drug Unit and Patrol in search warrants at three homes Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.
Police said earlier that two teen boys, including the 15-year-old charged in the murder, were arrested with physical evidence in relation to the murder.
Investigators don’t believe the incident was random in nature.
This is the city’s 15th murder of 2019, making this a record-breaking year for murders.
The 15-year-old made a brief first appearance in provincial court Wednesday in front of a nearly full gallery.
The court revealed that the accused was in possession of a long-barreled rifle.
The teen will be back in court Thursday at 9:30 a.m.
Provisions in the Youth Criminal Justice Act prevent publishing the names of the accused or the victim.
Cause of death determined
The autopsy into the 15-year-old boy’s death was completed Monday.
Police found the teen in “medical distress” at a business on the 2300 block of Arlington Avenue just before noon on Saturday.
They attempted to use life-saving measures but weren’t successful.
The autopsy determined his death was caused by a gunshot wound.
