Saskatchewan and Regina looked darn good on Saturday night.
What a showcase for an entirely new audience for Mosaic Stadium as it had the spotlight on Hockey Night in Canada for the Heritage Classic between the Jets and Flames.
Of course, I wasn’t able to be there with our commitment to game-day Saskatchewan Roughriders coverage. So I watched it like many across Canada and the hockey world watched it, on TV.
And once again, Saskatchewan hosted one heck of an event and proved when a major event arrives, we embrace it and make it a success.
There were thousands of fans who were likely in Mosaic Stadium for the first time with a hockey game there rather than football, plus the fans who came from Manitoba and Alberta as we all noticed a lot of licence plates from our neighbours in town.
And they’ll all leave saying good things.
The bars were full into early Sunday morning. Business was historic for some establishments.
Maybe it was once in a lifetime but the NHL left with a great impression, like Golf Canada for last year’s LPGA event.
And because of the way Saskatchewan hosts major events, maybe these aren’t once in a lifetime after all.
