Personal details. Name, age, hometown
Stacey Wiebe. 39. Sturgis.
Tell us about yourself
I am a certified organic cattle and goat farmer. I have two children and I am married. I live near Sturgis. I am the secretary of the Saskatchewan Goat Breeders Association and I am also the curator at the Sturgis Station House Museum.
What’s a little-known fact about you?
I am a sci-fi and fantasy nerd.
Why should voters hire you?
As a representative of the Green Party, my vote will never be whipped so I can truly represent constituents.
Who should we call for a reference?
Helene Tremblay Boyko.
What is your greatest strength? What is your greatest weakness?
Strength: Ability to stand my ground. Weakness: Sometimes I take things personally.
Where do you stand on:
Gun laws? Illegal handguns should be kept out of Canada. The Green Party will launch a confidential buyback of assault weapons and handguns.
The need for more pipelines? There is no need for new pipelines. Existing pipelines and oil and gas production will be phased out over 10 years. There should be a transition to renewable energy. Our future and our climate depend on it.
Western alienation? Western alienation will be alleviated by the Green Party’s Good Governance, specifically with inter-governmental collaboration. The Green Party will work with provinces, territories, municipalities and Indigenous Peoples by establishing a Council of Canadian Governments.
China? What should our approach be with some of our markets blocked? There are diplomatic channels already being used to resolve the issues with China. This might be a good time to look at trade with other countries in order to diversify so that these types of disputes do not place such an economic burden on Canadian producers.
Are we facing a climate change crisis? Is carbon tax the answer? There is a climate change crisis. A carbon tax is a band-aid solution to a very real and very large problem. It simply does not go far enough in addressing the climate change issue.
It’s a day off and you can do anything you want. What would it be?
Read! And drink chai tea. Spend some time in the garden.
Who inspires you?
Lt. Gen. Romeo Dallaire.
What is your hidden talent?
I can play the bagpipes.
What do you wish you could do but can’t?
There isn’t anything I can’t do. But if you mean something I would like to do but cannot because of circumstance at this moment, it would be to travel to Norway and Iceland.
Who are the three people, dead or alive, that you’d love to have dinner with?
Freddie Mercury, Elizabeth I and Lt. Gen. Romeo Dallaire.
How do you take your coffee?
Two sugar and lots of cream.
What’s the one album you’d take with you on a desert island? What embarrassing song do you admit to on your playlist?
Semi Charmed Life by Third Eye Blind. Embarrassing song: Any ’80s hair metal. I love those tunes.
