With all the moisture on the ground you may have noticed an abundance of mushrooms popping up.
Combine that with the right amount of humidity and Rick van Duyvendyk with Dutch Growers says it’s almost like a little greenhouse for them.
Van Duyvendyk says if you can bear the look of mushrooms the best thing to do is leave them.
“They actually help break down the organic matter that they grow on. That in turn will make it into more food that’s accessible to your plants which will make them greener.”
But if you cant stand the look of mushrooms, don’t just run the lawnmower over them.
“What you can do is pick them,” said van Duyvendyk. “And have a pail close by because you’ll spread spores all over the place otherwise.”
If you want a lawn that’s mushroom free, keep it well fertilized, keep it aerated, and not too wet all the time.
