An incident involving bear spray at Saskatoon’s Midtown Plaza has a teen in custody.
According to a release, Saskatoon Police were called to a mall at approximately 11:30 a.m. for a report of a man who had deployed bear spray on its second level. Midtown Plaza’s Public Relations confirmed the incident occurred at their mall.
Security detained the 17-year-old suspect after he allegedly deployed the spray against a 20-year-old victim, who were believed to have known one another.
The suspect deployed the spray a second time against the responding security guards, but missed.
No bystanders were injured in the incidents.
The suspect has been charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a dangerous weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, deploying a noxious substance and two counts of breach of probation. He also had a warrant out for his arrest.
