The identity crisis appears to be over for Vernon Adams Jr. When he went to the Montreal Alouettes in 2016 he had the athleticism and talent to be a CFL quarterback, but the short-lived career of Rakeem Cato was at its peak at the time. It was a challenging time to be with the dysfunctional Alouettes as the team finished with a 7-11 record that season.
Riders GM and head coach Chris Jones brought Adams to Saskatchewan in 2017. Jones, who cut Riders legend Darian Durant, thought it be best to give 38-year-old Kevin Glenn the starter’s job to pursue a Grey Cup. As a result Adams was never really given a chance to gain experience.
2018 meant a return to Montreal, just in time for “Manziel Mania.” That circus gave Adams no chance to succeed.
Now GM Kavis Reed is gone, as is Mike Sherman, who as a coach, just couldn’t get his head around the Canadian game.
Adams is finally in a position to win, and is doing just that. It’s something the Riders need to be mindful of tomorrow.
