8:30 – The federal government is planning a $300,000 study to examine whether existing electrical technology can replace fossil fuels for all purposes except power generation and fuel for international travel. The goal is to reduce – or completely replace – the use of fossil fuels, and the study proponent will gather data which will then be analyzed by Natural Resources Canada. The study isn’t sitting well with Saskatchewan’s Energy and Resources Minister Bronwyn Eyre, who says it’s clear the federal government is hostile towards the energy sector and noted the study’s scope does not require the proponent to look at the potential economic impact or job losses. Eyre joins John now to share her thoughts on the study.

11:00 – In his new book “Breakdown: The Pipeline Debate and the Threat to Canada’s Future,” author and former pipeline executive Dennis McConaghy argues that the pipeline debate is crucially important to our nation’s future. McConaghy says the debate often gets ugly, pitting provinces, regions, and different levels of government against each other. He says the debate “has created tremendous uncertainty in Canada’s largest export sector,” and has sucked billions out of our economy, not to mention stoking the fires of western separatism. McConaghy joins John now to discuss the pipeline debate in Canada and what needs to happen for the pipelines to be built.
