On top of the heat warnings which were issued earlier this week, Environment Canada added severe thunderstorm warnings to parts of southeast Saskatchewan Saturday morning.
As of 10:30 a.m., the severe thunderstorm warnings cover areas around Carlyle, Estevan, Fort Qu’Appelle, Lumsden, Moosomin and Grenfell.
“Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing very strong wind gusts, up to nickel size hail and heavy rain,” the weather alert warned.
The weather office said the warning stems from a thunderstorm that’s developing rapidly northwest of Weyburn and moving slowly toward the northeast.
Heat warnings
As of 10:30 a.m., heat warnings remain in effect for areas around Regina, Moose Jaw, Assiniboia, Carlyle, Estevan, Fort Qu’Appelle, Lumsden, Moosomin and Grenfell for the third day in a row.
Later in the afternoon, Environment Canada said the clouds will clear to show a sunny sky, bringing daytime highs around 30 C.
By Sunday, the weather office said a cold front is forecast to move through the region, bringing temperatures back to normal for this time of year, along with possibly some thunderstorms.
