Like all football coaches, Craig Dickenson will first notice the mistakes made by his Saskatchewan Roughriders.
That’s why he was bemoaning the two long touchdown returns by Ryan Lankford, which were basically the only blemishes in Saskatchewan’s 45-18 victory over the B.C. Lions on Saturday.
On the bright side, Riders fans noted that quarterback Cody Fajardo again ran bravely and handled the passing game efficiently. Tailback William Powell gained 151 yards and three touchdowns behind an offensive line that has been reconstructed because of injuries. And the defence limited B.C.’s high-priced quarterback, Mike Reilly, to less than 100 passing yards.
The Roughriders swept both ends of the home-and-home series, a difficult task that should prove they’re a decent team. But their three victories have come against the CFL’s weakest teams, something their head coach didn’t mention. But their fans have duly noted.
