A thunderstorm rolled through Saskatoon this morning, and that may not be the end of severe weather for our area.
Much of central and southern Saskatchewan are under severe thunderstorm watches that are expected to last into the evening.
This has organizers of tonight’s NASCAR Pinty’s series keeping their eyes on the weather situation.
Neil Schneider, with Wyant Group Raceway, says they are busy getting the track prepped with plans to go ahead with tonight’s races.
“NASCAR has pretty good radar in their trailer, and we have things in place, like if lightning strikes within 10 miles, that kind of stuff, ” said Schneider.
Schneider says NASCAR and the track work together in watching the weather models to make decisions.
If the weather does take a severe turn, the track has emergency response protocols, including shutting down the event and evacuating the track if it is bad enough.
“Just like any other outside festival, yes, if something were to happen, we would have to get everything in place, and there would be an announcement,” said Schneider.
