Saskatchewan RCMP have confirmed the families of two suspicious missing persons cases have been contacted after human remains were found in a rural area outside North Battleford on Thursday.
According to media release from RCMP on Friday, North Battleford RCMP and the major crimes unit conducted a ground search in a rural area outside of North Battleford on Thursday, where a police dog discovered the remains.
An autopsy is scheduled for next week to confirm the identity.
A spokeswoman with the RCMP could not confirm the location of the search, the gender of the remains or any specifics involving the search.
There are only two active suspicious missing persons investigations ongoing. The spokeswoman confirmed that investigators have been in contact with the families of both Ashley Morin and Tiki Brook-Lyn Laverdiere.
On Wednesday, RCMP labelled Morin’s case a homicide two days after the first anniversary of her disappearance. The 31-year-old from Ahtahkakoop First Nation has not been heard or seen from since July 10, 2018.
Laverdiere, 25, from Edmonton, was in the Thunderchild First Nation and North Battleford areas for a funeral on April 27. She has not been heard or seen from since May 1.
