The man accused of Saskatoon’s seventh homicide of the year made an emotional appearance in court Friday.
Xavier Jimmy, 21, was consoled by his grandmother in court as she moved as close to the prisoner’s box as possible to cry with her grandson.
Deputy sheriffs quickly reminded Jimmy that he is not allowed to communicate with the gallery and moved him to the other side of the courtroom as his lawyer prepared documents ahead of the brief hearing.
Jimmy is charged with second-degree murder in the death of Gabriel Frank Wapass, 47, who was found by police around 4 a.m. Sunday in the 1700 block of 20th Street West near St. Paul’s Hospital. Attempts to save his life by police and paramedics at the scene were unsuccessful.
Jimmy is to remain in custody until his next court appearance on July 25.
