A Saskatoon man has been charged with 22 counts of various offenses related to vehicle dealing.
The Financial and Consumer Affairs Authority of Saskatchewan (FCAA) wants to warn consumers about Rodney J. Evason, who allegedly operated as a vehicle dealer without a license.
The charges relate to the Consumer Protection and Business Practice Act.
Denny Huyghebaert, Deputy Director of the FCAA, said Evason was buying and selling vehicles unlicensed, which is illegal.
“Our office received tips from consumers, as well as other businesses (related),” he said. “It appears (Evason) was in the business of buying and selling vehicles, it informed our decision to proceed with prosecution.”
Huyghebaert said all vehicles were being bought and sold in Saskatchewan.
The Consumer Protection Division of the FCAA demanded that Evason cease and desist any unlicensed sales activities on two separate occasions.
On June 14, 2019, a warrant was issued for Evason’s arrest, but Huyghebaert said they haven’t had any luck finding the man.
“We’ve been having some challenges tracking down Mr. Evason. We’ve tried finding him at multiple locations at multiple different times. It appears to us that he has been evading the service of (these) documents.”
Huyghebaert said, if anyone knows where Evason is to contact the Saskatoon Police Service.
If anyone in the public has purchased a vehicle from Evason, they’re asked to contact their office.
