The Green Lake RCMP fears a canoeist has drowned after he did not return from a fishing trip on Saturday.
Two friends were camping in the area of Green Lake last week when a man from Calgary left the campsite around 3 p.m. to go fishing from his canoe.
He did not return to the campsite, and a local fisherman discovered his submerged canoe in the middle of the lake.
The 27-year-old was not wearing a lifejacket when he left the camp site. Winds increased “a great deal” after he left, an RCMP media release said.
“RCMP and Saskatchewan conservation officers checked the shores and any place he may have reached land. Patrols have been made on the water using sonar and all shorelines of the lake have been searched several times,” said the release.
Aerial and land searches have been conducted on local roads. An underwater recovery team searched another area and also made additional water patrols and were unable to locate the missing person.
The RCMP said he is presumed drowned as officers continue to update the missing man’s family.
