Saskatoon mayor recovering after car crash

Saskatoon Mayor Charlie Clark is recovering from a concussion after getting in a car crash Sunday.

He told 650 CKOM it happened as he was making his way home from attending a kite festival in Meewasin Park.

Clark said he was waiting to turn left off of Spadina Crescent when he was rear-ended, causing him to strike another vehicle waiting in front of him.

“The person who hit me got out, took full responsibility,” Clark said. “No one was seriously injured.”

He said he was feeling OK in the immediate aftermath of the crash, but started noticing dizziness and stiffness later that evening.

“I was hit pretty hard and I slammed backwards into the seat and bent it back a bit, and even sort of loosened the headrest a bit,” he said.

Clark thanked police and bystanders who came to help after the crash.

“I’ve never been in car accident in my life and so when you are in those situations, it does make you very grateful for the police services,” he said.

Clark took Monday off to recover and said his doctor had told him he was making good progress. However, he said he didn’t know exactly when he’d be cleared to return to work.
