8:30 – The Toronto Raptors took a 3-1 lead in their NBA finals series against the Golden State Warriors on Friday night, meaning that tonight’s home game could clinch Canada’s first-ever NBA championship. Raptormania is in full swing, and Saskatchewan fans will gather at Mosaic Stadium tonight to watch Game 5 on the stadium’s MaxTron screen – which is bigger than a standard NBA court. Saskatoon’s Scotiabank Theatre will also be showing the game free of charge. National Post Sports Columnist Scott Stinson said after so many losing seasons the Raptors’ current championship run feels like “The Miracle on Hardwood,” but they still need one more win to secure the Cinderella ending. Stinson joins John now to talk about how the Raptors got to this point, the mood in Toronto heading into Game 5, and how the Raptors could pull off a win tonight.

10:00 – Despite strong opposition from Conservative senators and many in the West, bills C-69 and C-48 (often nicknamed the “no more pipelines” and “tanker ban” bills) are both moving ahead. Senators rejected a committee report on C-48 Thursday, which called the controversial bill “unconstitutional and destructive to the fabric of Canadian federalism,” and said it would be destructive to the economies of Alberta and Saskatchewan. C-48 is now headed for a third reading in the Senate, while a heavily-amended Bill C-69 will now be reviewed by the House of Commons. Former Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall has said passing the bills would lead to a “unity crisis” in Canada and could stoke separatism in western provinces. Wall joins John now to discuss the impacts the bills could have on Canada’s national unity.
