The third edition of the Modern Fighting Championship is set for Friday night at the Nutana Curling Club.
Promoter Adam Lorenz calls it a great opportunity for the fighters and fans.
“There are some athletes on this card that have been dying to get action. There isn’t a whole lot of professional MMA being done in Western Canada at this level,” said Lorenz.
“Not only will it encourage people to take up martial arts, which is a very positive lifestyle, it also encourages Saskatchewan athletes that they can go places with the things that they are doing,”
Lorenz said the fights will also include some bouts featuring only jiu jitsu.
“It’ll be like submission-only grappling athletes and they’re coming in from all over the place. One of them is being flown in from Vancouver,” Lorenz said.
In fact, the event will feature fighters from across Western Canada. Until recently, Saskatchewan fighters had to travel outside the province to compete.
That changed when the Athletics Commission of Saskatchewan was established to allow combat sports in our province.
The first Modern Fighting Championship event was held in Saskatoon in February 2018. The second was held in December in Warman.
The stacked card for the third event is posted on the Modern Fighting Championship Facebook page.
