8:30 – The federal government’s Public Safety Committee didn’t take its study of rural crime seriously, according to MP Shannon Stubbs, who put forward the motion calling for the study back in 2018. Despite hearing from witnesses and stakeholder groups during six meetings and failing to meet its six month deadline, Stubbs says the committee’s final report was “a two page summary of minimal witness testimony with no formal recommendations for action.” Stubbs joins Drew now to discuss the rural crime report and why she feels the Liberal government isn’t taking the issue seriously, and what the government should be doing when it comes to rural crime.

11:00 – A group that was initially founded to support Canada’s energy and resource sector is shifting its focus to agriculture in a new campaign. Rick Peterson, founder of “Suits and Boots,” (named for its collaboration between executives and oil/gas/mining workers) says the group is going after China to try and ease the strain on canola producers. They’re asking concerned Canadians to email China’s ambassador and four consul generals in Canada, and they’re also going after Canadian organizations that are doing business with China and asking them to stand up to the Asian superpower. Peterson joins Drew now to discuss the new campaign.
