8:30 – The senate’s Transport and Communications Committee held a public hearing in Regina Wednesday as part of its review of Bill C-48, the “Oil Tanker Moratorium Act” commonly called the “tanker ban.” If passed, the bill would ban oil tankers off Canada’s West Coast, applying to any tankers carrying more than 12,500 tonnes of oil, with penalties as high as $5 million for any violations. Saskatchewan’s Energy and Resources Minister Bronwyn Eyre testified before the committee. She joins John now to discuss how she feels about the bill, as well as her thoughts on Jason Kenney’s controversial “turn off the taps” legislation (which is meant to drive up gas prices in B.C. and force more cooperation on getting western Canadian oil to market).
