8:30 – The nation of Sri Lanka is still on edge after the Easter bombings that killed nearly 300 people and injured 500 more while they attended church services. In the aftermath of the bombings the military was granted sweeping powers to detain and arrest suspects, and social media sites have been blocked to try to curb the spread of “false news reports.” Meanwhile, a group of extreme Islamists known as National Thoweeth Jama’ath has been accused of perpetrating the attacks, and the government is being accused of ignoring warnings from intelligence agencies. To help make sense of the chaotic situation, John is joined by threat/risk consultant and former CSIS analyst Phil Gurski.
