Growing up, every kid who plays hockey dreams of one day hoisting the Stanley Cup.
The St. Louis Blues have never won a championship, although they came close three times; they played in the final in 1968, ’69 and ’70.
If they were to win this year, it would be a great moment for Saskatchewan. Three players from the province are on the team: Regina’s Tyler Bozak, Wilcox’s Jaden Schwartz and Saskatoon’s Brayden Schenn.
Schenn’s dad Jeff is excited to watch his boy hopefully lift his first Stanley Cup. The Blues are opening their first-round, best-of-seven Western Conference series against the Winnipeg Jets on Wednesday.
“This is what you dream of. This is what you want,” Jeff Schenn told Jamie Nye on The Green Zone on Wednesday. “You’ve got friends who’ve been through it and you hear the stories and you want to be a big part of that yourself.”
The Schenns have hockey in their blood. Brayden’s older brother Luke, who plays for the Vancouver Canucks, has played more than 700 games in the NHL.
Jeff remembers the first time his boys were on skates.
“Luke was probably on the ice at three and Brayden wasn’t far behind,” said Schenn. “I guess you dream of (one day playing in the NHL), but for it to happen is pretty crazy.”
While Jeff is obviously cheering for Brayden’s team, he’s also excited to check out the Jets’ whiteout parties.
