Saskatoon police say a man is facing multiple charges after what started as a call about a shoplifter at Confederation Mall.
Police said they were called Tuesday afternoon with a report of a shoplifter known to also have warrants out for assault with a weapon and theft under $5,000.
The 43-year-old suspect reportedly ran away when an officer showed up.
Police said the officer eventually caught the man, who then allegedly began resisting arrest and threatened to stab the officer with a needle.
The officer fired a taser during the incident, but it was ineffective, according to a police media release.
The man was taken into custody and is facing charges including assaulting a peace officer and theft.
