A 23-year-old man was tasered while running from police armed with a pellet gun, according to a Saskatoon police media release.
Police were called ot the 300 block of Avenue D North Monday evening following reports of two men seen in a backyard trying to get into a garage.
Officers spotted the men and spoke with them when one of the pair allegedly took off running.
The man reportedly yelled that he was carrying a pellet gun as police ran after him.
A taser failed to stop the suspect as the foot chase continued onto the 100 block of Avenue F North. A second taser brought the man down on the 200 block of Avenue G North. He was taken into custody and found to be in possession of what police described as “a replica handgun.”
Police said the suspect was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon dangers to the public peace and obstruction. He was also alleged to have breached a previous set of court conditions and was reportedly found to have 13 outstanding warrants for his arrest.
As with any occasion where Saskatoon police officers use a taser, Monday evening’s incident will be subject to a review.
