RCMP have arrested a man wanted on a Canada wide warrant after a dramatic chase near Battleford Thursday evening.
It began around 7:15 p.m. when officers responded to a call about an erratic driver on Highway 4 south of Battleford.
While responding officers discovered there was a warrant out for the man driving.
Mounties chased the vehicle on grid roads and back onto Highway 4– this time heading north toward Battleford.
Officers used a spike belt and successfully got the vehicle to stop.
At that point, the driver shot at police and officers returned fire before the vehicle took off again.
Video from a witness, provided to BattlefordsNow, shows a vehicle go by followed by several police cruisers with lights and sirens.
When mounties stopped the vehicle for a second time the driver and passengers ran.
Officers set up a containment area bordering the south side of the Battle River during their search, which was assisted by the Saskatoon Police Service Air Support Unit.
While the search was underway an unsuspecting driver picked up the suspect and his passengers.
RCMP eventually arrested the suspect during a traffic stop on Highway 29 just south of Battleford.
While the investigation continued Friday morning RCMP warned of a higher than normal police presence on Highway 4 and 29.
There were no injuries reported during the chase, gunshots or arrest.
