A man who allegedly sped away from police on a motorcycle at rates reaching 260 kilometres per hour is now facing several charges.
Warman RCMP said in a release Thursday that a highway patrol officer spotted the bike going 160 km/h on Highway 45 south of Delisle on Tuesday around noon. Police attempted a traffic stop, but the motorcyclist ignored the emergency lights.
Not long after, a Vanscoy police officer also attempted a traffic stop farther north along Highway 45 that was also ignored. The motorcycle continued along Highway 7 towards Saskatoon at approximately 200 km/h.
At that point, the Saskatoon police plane began tracking the suspect as they turned around on Highway 7 and got back onto Highway 45.
The first highway patrol officer attempted another stop near Swanson, which was ignored again.
Shortly after, the police plane clocked the motorcycle at 260 km/h.
The driver eventually ditched the bike south of Swanson and ran away on foot. RCMP officers found him hiding in an outbuilding on a rural property and arrested him.
Jonah Vanderlinden of Swanson is now facing one charge of dangerous driving and three counts of fleeing police. He’s scheduled to appear in Saskatoon Provincial Court on May 8 at 2 p.m.
