Snowy sidewalks Saskatoon’s top bylaw complaint of 2018

In Saskatoon, property owners are required to clear the sidewalks in front of their properties.

And if you don’t, others will call you on it.

A city report says snow-covered sidewalks were the top bylaw complaint of 2018, garnering 974 calls to bylaw officers through the year.

That number is nearly double the next top entry on the list of complaints, with temporary signage on public property collecting 542 calls.

In total, bylaw officers received 3,326 complaints in 2018 — a six per cent decrease over 2017.

The top ten bylaw complaints of 2018 were:

1. Snowy sidewalks – 974
2. Temporary signs – 542
3. Overgrown back lanes – 303
4. Private tree encroachments – 219
5. Right of way infractions – 183
6. Drainage – 143
7. Debris in the right of way – 109
8. Icy sidewalks – 108
9. Vehicle/trailer in front yard – 105
10. Illegal suites – 86
