Anyone seeking emergency healthcare in the Leader, Sask. area will have to drive a longer distance for the foreseeable future.
The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) announced on Twitter Thursday evening that the Leader and District Integrated Healthcare Facility was evacuated due to a water line break that caused flooding in the building.
The flooding knocked out power to the facility.
The SHA said 25 residents in the facility were transferred to Swift Current, while others are staying with family.
Emergency services in Leader have been temporarily disrupted by the closure.
Kindersley and Maple Creek are the closest emergency departments to Leader, which is located about 200 kilometres southwest of Saskatoon.
The SHA said a contractor was onsite Thursday evening, and the damage is still being assessed.
