Six people are facing charges after a robbery at a hotel bar and restaurant in the community of Radisson, Sask., located about 45 minutes northwest of Saskatoon.
Masked suspects carrying knives reportedly went into Elvera’s Bar and Hotel around 11 p.m. Saturday.
Owner Elvera Lachapelle told 650 CKOM the waitress working at the time was knocked to the floor, but came up swinging.
“She’s a feisty little girl. She’s about 100 pounds soaking wet if she’s that, but she’s got a lot of vinegar in her. She nailed that girl and pushed her out the door and kind of had a chokehold on her.”
Lachapelle said the waitress stood down after another suspect brandished a knife in front of her. The robbers were eventually driven off by staff and customers.
“They managed to get all of them out of the bar. They took off with about $90, so it wasn’t very much for their effort.”
RCMP arrested six suspects in the hours following the incident. They were reportedly caught near Blaine Lake in a stolen vehicle.
Lachapelle said one customer suffered a nick to the ribs from a suspect’s knife during the melee inside the bar, but no one was seriously injured.
“A few things were broken, but lives were saved. That’s the main thing. No one was hurt seriously, everything else can be replaced.”
All six suspects were due to make their first court appearances Monday morning in Saskatoon.
