Several families in Vanscoy are homeless after a fire ripped through their apartment building.
The call came in at around 8:00 p.m. Saturday night. Everyone inside had managed to find their way out of the building safely by the time fire crews had arrived.
But Fire Chief Mike Given says, unfortunately, the tenants won’t be going back in.
“We do have four families that are homeless,” said Given. “We’ve deemed the building not safe for anyone other than fire fighters or investigators to go into. So they can’t go in and try to collect any belongings that might be saved.”
Fire fighters did manage to save two cats that were still inside when they arrived.
“We ended up finding one early on under a sofa. And he managed to coax it out. We took it into one of our vehicles and administered O2.”
There is no word yet on the cause of the fire.
