Environment Canada continued to warn about the extreme cold for most of Saskatchewan Saturday morning.
Cold warnings blanketed most communities north of Saskatoon and along the Manitoba border as far south as Esterhazy.
Early Saturday morning, Key Lake was the coldest place in Canada with a temperature of -47C.
Environment Canada Meteorologist Dan Fulton told 650 CKOM that as the cold air moves out of the province snow will move in.
“Beginning in west central regions in the morning and moving to the southeastern part of the province by the evening,” Fulton said about the forecasted snowfall.
He expects between two to five centimetres, or up to two inches, of snow to fall.
The system will likely bring strong gusting wind, according to Fulton.
“Probably be a bit of blowing snow on the roads tonight (Saturday),” He said. “So be careful travelling tonight, especially along the main corridors.”
For areas with the extreme cold warnings, Fulton expects they’ll end through the weekend.
But the reprieve will be short lived.
“As we move towards the end of next week it looks like another cold outbreak is coming,” Fulton said.
