Longtime Saskatchewan Party MLA Nancy Heppner has announced she won’t be running in the next provincial election.
“To my constituents I want to say – thank you. Your support and generosity over the years is truly humbling,” she said in a press release issued Tuesday by the party.
Heppner first won what is now the Martensville-Warman riding in a 2007 by-election following the death of her father, Ben, who had previously held the seat.
She was then re-elected in the 2007 provincial election and won again in 2011 and 2016.
Over the course of her career in the legislature, Heppner served in a number of cabinet roles, including as minister of environment, minister of highways and minister of energy and resources.
So far, the Saskatchewan Party has 19 candidates nominated for the 2020 election.
