A former NASA engineer’s ingenious response to package thieves has struck a chord worldwide.
Mark Rober, a YouTube personality known for creating videos about gadgets and experiments, posted a video this week showing a device meant to make so-called “porch pirates” think twice before taking parcels left on people’s doorsteps.
Rober’s 11-minute video details his six-month process to create a camera-equipped device that launches a multi-directional cascade of glitter and fart spray when a package is opened.
The video then goes on to show the device in action after being planted in packages left out in hopes of luring thieves.
Video from the device shows people opening the pilfered parcel in their vehicles, only to throw it away in disgust after being showered with a stinky tsunami of glitter.
The video had over 25 million views on YouTube by Wednesday morning.
