Saskatoon police said an officer used a Taser to prevent a possible knife attack on Friday.
Two officers were walking on patrol at the intersection of 21st Street and 1st Avenue when they noticed one man wielding a knife and chasing a person around 4:45 p.m.
Officers intervened and ordered the man to drop the knife. Instead, police say the 37-year-old turned and began moving towards the officers.
One officer fired his Taser at the man who police describe as showing signs of agitation and aggression while still gripping the knife.
The Taser was ineffective, but it did cause the man to drop the knife and allow officers to apprehend him.
Officers later discovered the suspect was under the influence of methamphetamine.
He is facing charges that include assault with a weapon and breach of court conditions.
