Community mourns death of Rosetown firefighter

Hearts are heavy in Rosetown as the community pays tribute to a volunteer firefighter killed in the line of duty.

Darrell Morrison died Wednesday while working at the scene of a crash north of the community, along Highway 4.

The 46-year-old was hit by a passing semi.

“Today we’re living with some broken hearts, we’re a family, we’re a fire department family much like all fire departments across Canada, so yeah, it rips your heart out,” said Rosetown Fire Chief Dennis Ogg.

“Darrell was truly in love with the fire service, he was dedicated, very dedicated,” Ogg continued.

He said this kind of loss seems to bring people together from across a vast province and country.

“I’ve got texts of condolences from fire departments and people all across Canada and the US, and I just want to thank them for that.”

This isn’t the first time the community of Rosetown has suffered a loss in recent months. Wednesday’s crash comes after the death of a young family in a collision south of Rosetown at the end of June.
