A man who evaded police for more than a week made a brief appearance Friday morning at Prince Albert Provincial Court.
Braidy Chase Vermette did not say a word as his case was adjourned to May 11. He has been remanded to the Saskatchewan Penitentiary.
Vermette is facing a charge of first-degree murder in connection with the 2015 death of Troy Napope. In addition to the murder charge, he also now faces a charge of escape and being at large without excuse.
He escaped lawful custody while being transported to the Victoria Hospital to receive medical attention March 30. Two armed and masked men showed up and took Vermette away.
Vermette and his girlfriend Tristen Smith were found early Thursday morning at a house in the RM of Buckland. During the arrest the house caught fire and burnt to the ground.
Smith also appeared in court Friday morning.
Smith, who is charged with drug possession and several counts of failure to appear, is now scheduled to appear in court Monday morning via video link from the womens’ correctional centre.
The other co-accused in the Napope case, Skylar Patrick Bird, is awaiting his next court appearance on May 24.
