The new Save-on-Foods in Regina is nothing but good for shoppers, according to a local marketing strategist.
The Queen’s City’s newest grocery store held its grand opening on Saturday. It’s in the old Canadian Tire building on South Albert Street. It’s an area that’s seen a lot of new stores open up in the past few years, including a Wal-Mart Supercentre in Harbour Landing, and a Superstore that is coming soon to the Golden Mile Shopping Centre.
Dwight Heinrichs is a marketing strategist at the University of Regina. He said more competition is always good, and in this case shoppers are the ultimate winners.
“It’s a variety thing, or it’s a different shopping experience, or just the, perhaps, convenience of location and parking.”
Heinrichs said the only downside for shoppers would be if there’s too much market saturation, and one or two stores close down.
“But, given the options that are available, it doesn’t really put any of us in a bind in a big way,” said Heinrichs.
He said he’s already looked at the Save-on-Foods website, and it has an aggressive online presence – it’s the only store in Regina where customers can order groceries online and have them delivered. Heinrichs said he’s looking forward to taking a walk through.
