8:30 – Saskatchewan’s two-year moratorium on selling retail liquor permits ends on Oct. 8, paving the way for major retailers such as Loblaws to enter the market. Loblaws says they’re interested in opening stores in Regina, Moose Jaw, Yorkton and Saskatoon. Gene Makowksy, minister responsible for the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority (SLGA), said the government has no immediate plans to announce new liquor permits, but he wouldn’t rule it out. He joins John to discuss the changes.

Accompanying their survey is a call for legislative changes around mental health to increase funding and improve treatment, research, and access. Phyllis O’Connor, executive director of the Canadian Mental Health Association’s Saskatchewan division joins John to discuss mental health in Canada and the ways the systems can improve.
