The second court date for the semi driver charged in the deadly Humboldt Broncos bus crash lasted only a few moments Tuesday morning.
Jaskirat Singh Sidhu, 29, was charged with 16 counts of dangerous driving causing death and 13 counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm after allegedly causing the Humboldt Broncos bus crash April 6.
Sixteen people died and 13 others were injured when a semi-truck collided with a bus carrying 29 members of the Humboldt Broncos junior hockey organization north of Tisdale.
Sidhu’s lawyer Satnam Aujla appeared in court by phone Tuesday morning. The 29-year-old accused did not appear in court himself.
Aujla requested the matter be adjourned Oct. 2 for defence election. The lawyer said he only recently received details on the case, and his client requires more time before entering his pleas.
Sidhu was released on $1,000 bail after his first appearance in Melfort Provincial Court on July 10.
The Crown consented to Sidhu’s release on a number of conditions including a ban on operating a motor vehicle while out of custody and that the 29-year-old surrender his passport.
