Sask. gets brief weekend reprieve from wildfire smoke

Environment Canada is out with air quality advisories for all of Saskatchewan as wildfire smoke from British Colombia continues to blanket the province.

However, meteorologist Heather Pimiskern told 650 CKOM on Saturday there would be a short break from the smoke.

“The heaviest most dense smoke should be filtered out of the province probably by (Sunday),” she said.

A weather pattern change early next week is expected to bring more smoke into Saskatchewan.

“It’s really hard to tell when this will end,” she said. “We really need the fires to be extinguished in order for the smoke to completely clear from the prairies.”

While the air quality statements are in place Pimiskern suggests people stay inside and check in on people with breathing conditions.
